Beach, Rock and Land Based Fishing
1770 is fast becoming known as the home of one of the best land based fishing locations in Queensland. Pack the 4WD with a number of the best spots secluded needing a 4WD to access. Well known and loved spots include the ‘catwalk’, Agnes Point and Wreck Rock. Pack the surf rod for your best chance to catch dinner. Bream, sweetlip, golden trevally, cobia, queenfish, kingfish and tailor. Fish the sandbanks and low tide where whiting and flathead abound.
Creek and Estuary Fishing
These local waterways are home to mangrove jack, trevally, grunter, barramundi, queenfish, silver and pike bream as well as flathead and whiting. Head to Round Hill Creek, Middle Creek, Jenny Lind Creek, Pancake Creek and the mud crab sanctuary, Eurimbula Creek.
With the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef easily accessible from 1770, reef fish are plentiful. Coral trout, sweetlip, red emperor and spanish mackeral are amongst the favourite, with reef fish perfect for the table. Take your own boat with Agnes Water and 1770 providing excellent boat ramp and parking facilities or book a day tour on one of the local charters.
